Integrating a peer group intervention for substance use and gender beliefs into vocational training programs in Zambia, Zimbabwe, and South Africa

Young people are the future. In Africa, young people account for over 60% of the region’s population. But they face ongoing threats to their health and well-being due to a high burden of emerging infectious and non-communicable diseases, political and economic instabilities, and increasing inequities between the Global South and Global North.

To ensure a healthy and prosperous future, we are testing a multi-pronged approach with PEGISUS, which aims to help young people reduce unhealthy substance use, develop more flexible beliefs about gender, and increase their potential for employment.
