Adolescents and young adults in sub-Saharan Africa are facing increasing threats to life, health and well-being. This project seeks to address adolescent and young adult well-being and quality of life in Zambia, Zimbabwe, and South Africa, by simultaneously tackling problem AOD use, inequitable gender beliefs, and high rates of unemployment. These issues affect numerous countries within sub-Saharan Africa as well as many other low- or middle-income countries globally. SOR4D applies a transdisciplinary research approach to develop and implement a brief, scalable intervention to reduce problem AOD use and gender inequitable beliefs, delivered to peer groups. This intervention is embedded within existing vocational programs to enhance scalability and intervention dissemination.
